our sour patch.

Have you even seen those Sour Patch commercials with the giant gummy bear acting out something naughty and then something nice? First they’re sour, then they’re sweet? Well I think that phrase lines up perfectly with toddlers. They have such sweet hearts, their words can melt you, but then when you least expect it they can sour in an instant. After spending 48 solid hours with Moses (for a working mother spending undivided, saturated quality time together for that long is hard to come by!) I’ve realized this more than ever.

Examples:
First he is placing a sticker on his shirt acting very independent and the next thing you know he has 10 stickers all over the resort furniture. First he is melting over something on the floor and then he is happily running into your arms.

Those little sour notes they start picking up from friends, TV, family, us….they are all starting to show little by little. The newest one that just baffles me is the lying. A two year old lying to my face? Yep.
Moses: “Mommy, can I have a banana?”
Me: “No it’s too close to dinner”
….walks over to Davy…
Moses: “Daddy, can I have a banana?”
Moses: “Mommy said yes”

It’s happening everywhere now; he’ll tell anyone that me or Davy told him YES when it reality he is just trying to play every card he knows until someone gives him what he wants. It’s scary that is pure little sweet mind already knows how to play dirty tricks.

Moses is 2 ½ and it’s always a “work in progress” at our house.
